Something Very Bad Is Going to Happen - Review
A slow-burning horror series with a strong atmosphere - but uneven pacing makes it a mixed experience.
Something Very Bad Is Going to Happen takes a simple idea and turns it into a slow-burning psychological horror story. While it has a strong atmosphere and an interesting concept, it didn’t fully work for me.
The Plot
The series follows Rachel and Nicky, a couple preparing to get married, as they travel to his family’s isolated home. What should be a joyful week quickly turns unsettling, as strange events, disturbing warnings, and eerie family dynamics begin to build tension. As the days pass, it becomes clear that something dark is tied to both the family and the upcoming wedding.
My Analysis
The biggest strength of the show is its atmosphere. It builds tension slowly, relying more on unease and strange details than on traditional scares. The setting, sound design, and pacing all contribute to a feeling that something bad is always just around the corner.
However, this slow approach is also where the series struggles. At eight episodes, the story feels stretched. Some parts drag, and it feels like the same tension is repeated without enough payoff. This is something even critics have pointed out, noting that the story might have worked better with fewer episodes.
For me, it ended up feeling a bit boring at times, especially in the middle episodes. The concept is strong, but the execution doesn’t always keep you fully engaged.
Overall, Something Very Bad Is Going to Happen is a decent watch, but not one of my favorites. It has a great eerie concept and some strong moments, but the pacing holds it back.
I didn’t hate it, it’s still worth watching if you enjoy slow psychological horror, but I feel like it could have been much better with a tighter story and fewer episodes.
