Together (2025) Review - A Twisted Body Horror Romance

Movie

Together blends love, fear, and grotesque transformation in an unsettling yet easy-to-watch tale.

Together movie cover

Every once in a while, a horror movie comes along that feels different - not just another round of jump scares or gore for gore’s sake. Together is one of those films. I went into it not really knowing what to expect, and honestly, I ended up really enjoying it. It was an easy watch, but still weird and unsettling in the best ways.

The Story

The film follows Tim and Millie (played by real-life couple Alison Brie and Dave Franco), who head out on what should be a normal hike, only to discover a creepy cave with water that literally changes them forever. After drinking from it, their bodies start fusing. Yes, it’s as gross and uncomfortable as it sounds. The horror isn’t just about body parts sticking together; it’s about what happens when two people lose their individuality in a relationship.

What I Liked

The mix of romance and horror really worked for me. There’s something strangely sweet in how Brie and Franco play off each other, even when things get grotesque; their chemistry makes you stay invested. And I have to say, the practical effects were fantastic. Every squelch, crunch, and gooey sound effect had me cringing (in a good way). It reminded me of old-school body horror, but with a modern emotional twist.

I also liked that it didn’t feel too heavy. Yes, the concept is disturbing, but the movie balances it with moments of dark humor and genuine tenderness. That’s probably why I’d call it an “easy watch,” even though the imagery is so intense.

What Didn’t Work As Well

If I had to nitpick, the last part of the film didn’t land as strongly for me. There’s a cult subplot and a CGI-heavy sequence that felt unnecessary. Like the movie was trying too hard to up the stakes when it already had a solid, creepy core, I would’ve been thrilled if it stayed focused on the relationship horror without going over the top.

Final Thoughts

At the end of the day, Together is a unique blend of body horror and romance. It’s gross, heartfelt, and genuinely unsettling all at once. I loved how it took a wild, grotesque idea and turned it into something surprisingly relatable about love, codependency, and what happens when two people get a little too close.

If you’re into horror that makes you squirm but also leaves you thinking about relationships in a new way, this is definitely worth a watch.
