Summary

Set in Hollywood, Scream 3 follows Sidney Prescott as she navigates the trauma of her past while a new Ghostface killer begins a deadly spree on the set of Stab 3. Living in isolation as a crisis counselor, Sidney’s quiet life is disrupted when Cotton Weary is brutally murdered, and clues link the new killings to her late mother, Maureen Prescott. Gale Weathers and Dewey Riley join the investigation, uncovering a connection between the murders and Maureen’s dark history as an actress named Rena Reynolds. As the cast of Stab 3 is killed off in the order dictated by the film’s script, the tension escalates. A videotaped message from the late Randy Meeks warns Sidney and her friends that the rules have changed, making everyone a target. Eventually, the killer is revealed to be Roman Bridger, the movie's director and Sidney's half-brother. Roman, born of a traumatic assault Maureen endured in Hollywood, orchestrated the earlier killings out of resentment for Sidney’s fame and their mother’s rejection. The film culminates in a dramatic showdown in which Sidney outsmarts and kills Roman with help from Dewey and Gale. In the aftermath, Sidney finds peace and reconnects with her loved ones. The movie concludes with quiet hope, as Sidney leaves her door open to signify her newfound sense of safety.
