Evil Dead Burn brings the Deadites back for another brutal chapter filled with possession, family trauma, and an enormous amount of blood. Directed by Sébastien Vaniček, the latest entry doesn’t hold back when it comes to delivering the violent chaos fans have come to expect from the franchise.
Summary of the Plot
The story follows Alice, played by Souheila Yacoub, who travels to the secluded home of her late husband’s family following his death. What begins as an already uncomfortable family gathering becomes far worse when demonic forces enter the picture and members of the family begin transforming into Deadites.
Rather than directly continuing Evil Dead Rise, the film introduces a new group of characters while keeping the familiar rules and supernatural madness of the Evil Dead universe.
Critical Analysis
Unsurprisingly, the biggest attraction here is the horror itself. Evil Dead Burn is extremely graphic, constantly finding new and painful-looking ways to put its characters through hell. Director Sébastien Vaniček also gives the Deadites distinct personalities, making their attacks feel more calculated rather than simply chaotic.
There is still some dark humour beneath all the violence, but this is very much one of the nastier entries in the franchise. At almost two hours, however, the relentless brutality can occasionally become exhausting, and the story itself isn't always as memorable as its biggest horror sequences.
Conclusion
Overall, Evil Dead Burn knows exactly what kind of movie it wants to be. It’s bloody, cruel, chaotic and packed with the sort of outrageous horror that Evil Dead fans expect.
It might not reinvent the franchise, but if you came for Deadites and ridiculous amounts of gore, there’s certainly plenty here to enjoy.
